About us

The German Foundation of General Practice and Family Medicine

Our Foundation was established in 1973 with the aim of "promoting research, education, specialist training and continuous medical education in the field of general practice. The realization of the Foundation’s charter will be achieved in particular by promoting research work in general practice." (§ 2 of the Charter)

As the founder, the German College of General Practitioners and Family Physicians (DEGAM) has adhered to its objective for more than 40 years and continues to rigorously develop programs for the next generation of family doctors.

Medical students and young doctors have the opportunity to participate in closed weekend sessions and summer schools. Furthermore, in cooperation with the Dr. Lothar Beyer Foundation, an independent jury has awarded young scientists in general practice lucrative research prizes since 2008.
